If your legal name changes due to marriage, divorce, or another reason, you should notify the IRS so its records can be updated. You will generally need to provide documentation supporting the change, such as a marriage certificate, divorce decree, or court order. If you are renewing your ITIN, include the supporting documentation with Form W-7. Your ITIN number itself will not change.
