Can I e-file my tax return when applying for an ITIN?
No. If you are applying for an ITIN and are required to submit a U.S. federal tax return, you generally must submit a paper tax return together with Form W-7. You cannot e-file a return that includes an initial Form W-7 application. Once your ITIN has been issued, you can generally e-file subsequent tax returns.
